TMJ

Jake Gabrielsen is the only physical therapist in the Treasure Valley certified in the treatment of TMJ/craniofacial (head, neck, and jaw) disorders.

TMJ stands for Temporomandibular joint and is the name of the joint where your jaw bone connects to your head.  When it becomes dysfunctional, you may have pain in your face, inner ear, head, and neck as well as experience popping and grinding noises with mouth movements.  Many people will feel inner ear pain and come to believe that they may have an ear infection and others can even experience tinnitus.  Most people will have neck pain and stiffness and headaches.

Specialized physical therapy is effective in eliminating these symptoms and restoring full jaw and neck function.  Treatment includes skilled hands on manual techniques to restore smooth jaw and neck movement, improve posture, and to eliminate neck and facial muscle tightness.  Manual treatment is followed up on with jaw and neck exercises to stabilize gains and to help prevent relapses.

If you believe that you have a TMJ dysfunction (and or neck pain and headaches), you will benefit greatly from specialized physical therapy.
